Lantra Landbased Learner of the Year Awards
Katie Stephen from Hawick was announced as Equine Learner of the Year Award Winner and Lantra Learner of the Year Overall Runner Up. Katie was presented with the equine award, sponsored by Easterton Stables in Milngavie. Katie is a former Borders College Horse Care student who successfully completed her course in June 2012 and now works full-time in a local hunting and eventing yard.
Throughout her course she successfully completed many additional certificates, worked with the Riding for the Disabled organisation and was involved with schooling and training wild ponies with Ian and Jenny Stark at Dryden Riding Stables. She was also selected for the British Young Riders Dressage Scheme (BYRDS) under 21 ‘B’ squad last year and has won several classes with her own horse in showing and eventing.
Alison Robertson, Katie’s course tutor comments, “Katie has proved she has the commitment and enthusiasm necessary for a promising future in the horse industry and would be an asset to any employer.”
